Tatopani Hot Spring Annapurna Circuit
Tatopani is the legendary hot spring village on the Annapurna Circuit, offering geothermal pools and fresh mangoes after days of high-altitude trekking.
Overview
Tatopani sits at 1,190 metres in the Mustang district, south of the Thorong La Pass on the classic Annapurna Circuit route. After crossing the 5,416-metre pass and descending through Muktinath and Jomsom, most trekkers reach Tatopani in a state of genuine physical relief. The developed hot spring pools are the reward.
The pools are concrete-lined, maintained by the local municipality, and open from early morning until evening. Entry costs approximately 150-200 NPR. Changing rooms and basic facilities are available. Water temperature varies seasonally but stays around 38-42 degrees Celsius. Several pools accommodate different group sizes โ arrive early to secure a quieter corner.
Beyond the springs, Tatopani is known for its fruit orchards. Mangoes, oranges, and bananas appear in abundance at lower elevations โ a dramatic dietary shift from the lentil soup and rice of higher teahouses. Fresh fruit salads and juices at local restaurants are genuinely excellent.
Tatopani is also reachable by jeep from Pokhara via Beni and Begnaskali, making it accessible without completing the full Annapurna Circuit. Sajilo provides cab connections in the Pokhara region for the initial leg before the mountain road section. A round-trip from Pokhara for a springs day trip is feasible but long โ most visitors stay at least one night.
