Best Season for a Nepal Honeymoon
When to visit Nepal for your honeymoon: a month-by-month guide to weather, mountain visibility, crowds, and pricing.
Choosing the right time to visit Nepal is one of the most important honeymoon planning decisions. Nepal's climate varies enormously by month and the difference between a crisp October day with perfect mountain views and a monsoon July day with rain, leeches, and cloud-obscured peaks is enormous.
Nepal's Four Seasons
Autumn (October-November) -- BEST SEASON
Autumn is universally considered the finest time to visit Nepal. The monsoon ends in late September, leaving the air clean, the vegetation brilliantly green, and the skies the clearest of the year. Mountain views are at their sharpest. The temperature is warm during the day (20-25 degrees C in Kathmandu, 18-22 degrees C in Pokhara) and cool but comfortable at night.
October and November are peak season. Hotels book up early at popular properties. Prices are 20-30% higher than the off-season. Trekking trails are busy, particularly the Annapurna and Everest regions.
For honeymoon couples, this is the ideal window. The combination of perfect weather, clear mountains, and comfortable temperatures makes every outdoor experience better.

October is slightly better than November because the rice harvest creates a golden landscape in the mid-hills. November is drier and increasingly cold toward month-end.
Spring (March-April) -- EXCELLENT SEASON
Spring is the second peak season and arguably rivals autumn for beauty. The rhododendron forests (Nepal's national flower) bloom across the mid-hills in March and April, creating vivid pink and red colour in the Annapurna and Langtang regions.
March weather is warm (22-28 degrees C in Kathmandu) and the mountain visibility, while slightly hazier than autumn due to pre-monsoon dust, remains excellent on most days. April sees pre-monsoon clouds building in the afternoons but mornings are typically clear.
Crowds are slightly lighter than October-November. Prices are high but not always at the absolute peak. Spring is an excellent time for couples who prefer flowers to harvest-gold landscapes.
Winter (December-February) -- GOOD WITH CAVEATS
Winter is quieter, cheaper (25-40% less than peak season), and offers genuine mountain visibility on clear days. December and January see cold temperatures: Kathmandu drops to 2-8 degrees C at night, Pokhara to 8-14 degrees C. Trekking above 3,000 metres requires serious cold-weather gear.
High-altitude passes can be closed due to snow. The Thorong La on the Annapurna circuit is sometimes blocked in January.
However, the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara at lower elevations are perfectly pleasant in winter daylight hours. A Kathmandu-Pokhara honeymoon without high trekking is entirely feasible in winter and significantly cheaper.
February is the best winter month: slightly warmer, clear visibility, and the first rhododendrons begin flowering in the lower Annapurna foothills.
Monsoon (June-August) -- NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HONEYMOON
The monsoon transforms Nepal's landscape into brilliant green but brings heavy daily rainfall, trail mudslides, leeches at lower elevations, and persistent cloud cover that hides the mountains for days at a time.
Mountain flights are frequently cancelled. Outdoor activities are disrupted. Trekking in the Annapurna region is genuinely hazardous due to trail conditions.
The one exception: the Mustang region in the rain shadow north of the Annapurna range stays relatively dry during the monsoon. Couples specifically interested in the high-altitude Tibetan culture of Upper Mustang can visit in June-August when this restricted area is actually at its best.
Month-by-Month Quick Reference
January: Cold, clear skies, good mountain views, low crowds, lower prices.
February: Mild, clear, good views, low-medium crowds, lower prices.
March: Warm, rhododendrons blooming, excellent views, medium crowds, higher prices.
April: Warm, good views, some afternoon cloud, medium crowds, higher prices.
May: Hot, pre-monsoon haze, fair views, low-medium crowds, medium prices.
June through August: Monsoon season, poor mountain visibility, very low crowds, lowest prices.
September: Monsoon easing, fair to good views, low crowds, medium prices.

November: Perfect weather, excellent views, high crowds, highest prices.
December: Cold, clear, good views, low-medium crowds, medium prices.
Recommendation for Honeymooners
Book October or March-April if possible. If those months are not feasible, February is a good alternative. Avoid June through August unless you have specific reasons to visit in monsoon season.
Regardless of season, book accommodation and domestic flights at least 2-3 months in advance for October and March-April.
