Overview

Nepal launched its e-visa system to allow travellers to apply online before arriving. The e-visa portal at nepalimmigration.gov.np lets you complete your application, pay online, and receive an approval letter to present at the border.

The e-visa is valid for entry through Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), Bhairahawa Airport, and Pokhara International Airport only.

Key Tips

Create an account on the official Nepal e-visa portal. Fill in personal details, upload a passport-sized photo (white background, recent), and provide your travel itinerary. Payment is accepted by major credit and debit cards.

Processing usually takes two to three business days. Print the approval letter or save it on your phone โ€” immigration officials will scan the QR code on arrival. The e-visa fee is the same as the visa on arrival fee.

FAQ

Can I get an e-visa for a land border crossing?
Currently, the Nepal e-visa is only valid for entry through Kathmandu, Bhairahawa, and Pokhara airports. For land borders, you must obtain a visa on arrival.

Is the e-visa cheaper than visa on arrival?
The fees are identical. The main advantage of the e-visa is convenience โ€” no queue at the visa desk on arrival.

What if my e-visa application is rejected?
Rejections are rare for tourism visas. If rejected, contact the Department of Immigration or apply for a visa on arrival upon landing in Nepal.
