Dhulikhel at 1,550 m elevation sits on the Arniko Highway 30 km east of Kathmandu and offers a panoramic Himalayan view that rivals Nagarkot but with the bonus of a genuine old Newari town to explore. The medieval streets of lower Dhulikhel have traditional Newari architecture, stone courtyards, and a relaxed atmosphere far removed from tourist-heavy areas. Is Dhulikhel or Nagarkot better for mountain views?
Both are excellent. Nagarkot (2,175 m) is higher and arguably has a wider panorama. Dhulikhel has better old-town atmosphere and slightly more reliable road access. Many visitors do both on consecutive nights.
How do I get from Kathmandu to Dhulikhel?
Regular buses depart from Ratna Park bus stand (NPR 60 to 80, 1.5 hours). Sajilo cabs from any Kathmandu hotel take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour (NPR 1,200 to 1,800).
Can I do a day trip to Dhulikhel from Kathmandu?
