Inside the park: A very small number of exclusive lodges operate inside the national park boundaries under special permits. These properties are among the most expensive in Nepal but offer unparalleled wildlife access with no day-tripper competition.

Safari activities at good lodges include jeep safaris (morning and evening), elephant-back or walking safaris, canoe rides on the Rapti River for crocodile and bird watching, and village cultural visits. Lodges that include all activities in a package rate are generally better value than those that charge separately for each activity.

Is Chitwan better than Bardia for tigers?
Bardia has a higher tiger density relative to visitor numbers, meaning sightings are less diluted. Chitwan is more accessible and has far more rhinos. Both parks are excellent.

When is the best time to visit Chitwan?
October through March offers the best wildlife visibility. The grass is cut by park staff in January and February, dramatically improving sightlines. Avoid the June-to-August monsoon when flooding closes much of the park.
