Lakeside (Phewa Taal)

Lakeside โ€” also called Baidam or the tourist strip โ€” runs along the eastern shore of Phewa Lake and is Pokhara's main tourist hub. Restaurants, gear shops, travel agencies, and accommodation of every price tier line the main road. The view across the lake to the Annapurna massif and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) is one of the finest in Nepal. Lakeside is the obvious base for most visitors. Best for: most travellers, especially those on Annapurna Circuit or Poon Hill treks.

Pame Bazar (New Lakeside)

South of the original Lakeside strip, Pame Bazar has developed into a quieter extension with newer hotels and slightly lower prices. The lake views are equally good and the distance from the busiest part of Lakeside means lighter traffic and fewer touts. Best for: travellers who want Lakeside convenience without the noise.

Damside (Pardi)

Damside is at the southern end of the lake near the outlet dam. It is quieter than Lakeside, with good lake views and a smaller selection of guesthouses and mid-range hotels. The trade-off is a longer walk to the main restaurant and gear-shop strip. Best for: travellers who want calm and do not mind the extra ten-minute walk.

Pokhara Bazaar (Old Town)

The commercial heart of Pokhara is less touristic and more Nepali in character. Accommodation is cheaper and more basic, with fewer English-speaking staff. Best for: budget-conscious travellers who want to experience everyday Pokhara rather than the tourist bubble.

Airport Area and New Road

Hotels near Pokhara Regional Airport tend to be mid-range to business-oriented. The area lacks the lakeside atmosphere but is convenient for very early morning flights. Best for: transit stops and business visitors.

Sarangkot

The ridge village above Pokhara at about 1,600 metres has a handful of guesthouses and small lodges. The payoff is one of the finest Himalayan sunrise viewpoints in Nepal. Best for: early-morning Himalaya photography and trekkers starting the Sarangkot-Naudanda section.
