Pokhara Lakeside Area Complete Guide

Lakeside is Pokhara's tourist heart, a long strip of restaurants, gear shops, and cafes running along Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range as its backdrop.

Overview

Lakeside (Baidam) stretches about 3km along the eastern shore of Phewa Lake. It is the most concentrated tourist zone in Nepal outside Thamel, but unlike Thamel it has genuine natural beauty built in. The lake is right there, the mountains are right there, and a morning walk along the lakefront path delivers both simultaneously.

The strip is divided into Lakeside North, Central, and South. North is quieter with a more residential feel. Central holds the main concentration of restaurants, gear shops (for trekking equipment and outdoor clothing), travel agencies, and tourist lodges. South tapers toward the boat ghats and the more local Pokhara Bazaar area.

Food quality on Lakeside is genuinely good. A competitive restaurant culture has pushed standards up over the years. Wood-fired pizza, fresh trout, thakali set meals, and decent coffee all exist within a few minutes walk of each other. The rooftop bars looking west toward the lake at sunset fill up fast โ€” arrive 30 minutes before the sun goes down to get a good table.

Sajilo covers Pokhara city routes and can take you from Pokhara bus park or airport to your Lakeside accommodation without the taxi negotiation that greets new arrivals at the gate.

FAQ

Is Lakeside getting too touristy?
It is busy during peak season (October-November, March-April) but the lake view makes it forgivable. Early mornings and late evenings feel quieter and more local.

Are there good budget options on Lakeside?
Yes. Guesthouses at the northern end and back lanes off the main strip offer clean rooms at competitive prices. The amenities on the main strip are accessible regardless of where you stay.
