Nepal in October Perfect Itinerary
October is Nepal's finest travel month: crystal skies, warm days, vibrant festivals, and the entire trekking trail network at its best. Here is how to make the most of it.
Overview
October marks the beginning of Nepal's peak trekking season. The monsoon ends in late September, leaving the air washed clean and the sky a deep blue that photographs beautifully against white Himalayan peaks. Temperatures are ideal: daytime highs of 20-25 degrees C in Kathmandu and Pokhara, dropping to 5-10 degrees C at night on trekking trails around 3,000 metres. The Dashain festival, Nepal's largest Hindu celebration, falls in October and adds vibrant cultural colour to any Kathmandu visit.
The downside of October is crowds. Everest Base Camp trails are at their most congested, teahouses in popular trekking areas fill up fast, and Kathmandu's tourist hotels command premium prices. Book accommodation at least two months in advance for October travel.
Recommended activities for October: Everest Base Camp trek, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang Valley, Kathmandu heritage circuit, Mani Rimdu festival at Tengboche, and Chitwan wildlife safaris. October is also the best month for paragliding in Pokhara โ winds are stable and visibility is extraordinary.
