Nepal 14 Days Trekking and Culture
Two weeks in Nepal opens up the Everest region, the Kathmandu Valley in depth, and a proper multi-day cultural immersion — this is the itinerary for those who want to do Nepal properly on a first visit.
Overview
Fourteen days is the minimum duration for a genuinely comprehensive Nepal experience that includes the Everest region. The classic 14-day structure covers Kathmandu, a flight to Lukla, a trek to Everest Base Camp or Gokyo Lakes, a return to Kathmandu, and either Pokhara or Chitwan as a final destination. This requires reasonable fitness — the Everest trek involves 12 to 14 days of walking to complete fully, so a 14-day total itinerary requires choosing either base camp OR a shorter EBC approach trek.
Days 1-2: Kathmandu Arrival
Kathmandu orientation: Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Durbar Square, Swayambhunath. Use these two days to sort permits (TIMS and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry permit), get a final gear check, and acclimatise at Kathmandu's 1,300 metres before flying to Lukla at 2,840 metres.
Days 3-10: Everest Region Trek
Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (40 minutes). Standard eight-day itinerary: Lukla-Phakding-Namche Bazaar (acclimatisation day)-Tengboche-Dingboche-Lobuche-Gorak Shep-Everest Base Camp (5,364 m)-Kala Patthar (5,545 m for the best Everest view)-return to Lukla via Namche. This is a tight but manageable schedule for fit trekkers who have acclimatised well. Hire a licensed guide and porter from Namche.
Days 11-12: Kathmandu Recovery
Return flight Lukla to Kathmandu. One to two days for recovery, shopping in Asan Bazaar, a cooking class, or the Bhaktapur-Changu Narayan combination that many first-timers miss.

FAQ
Is 14 days enough to reach Everest Base Camp?
Fourteen days total with eight dedicated to the trek is tight but feasible for fit, well-acclimatised trekkers. Adding one extra acclimatisation day at Namche or Dingboche significantly reduces altitude sickness risk. Consider 16 days if your fitness is average.
What is the cost of a 14-day Nepal trip?
A well-organised mid-range trip with domestic flights, guided trek, teahouse accommodation, and meals costs approximately USD 2,000-2,800 per person excluding international flights.
What is the best season for the Everest trek?
October-November and March-May. October offers the clearest skies and best mountain views. April offers rhododendron blooms at lower elevations.
