Gokyo Ri is the summit above Gokyo village in the Khumbu region, reached after a steep 90-minute climb from the teahouses at the third Gokyo Lake (4,700m).

Overview

The viewpoint at 5,357m frames Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu simultaneously โ€” all four visible in a single sweeping glance. Unlike Kalapathar, Gokyo Ri also looks directly down over the turquoise glacial lakes and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier below. Most trekkers reach Gokyo after 9-11 days from Lukla via the Dudh Koshi valley. Fly into Lukla via Kathmandu; use Sajilo to get to Kathmandu airport without stress the morning of your mountain flight.

FAQ

How long does the climb take? Allow 1.5-2 hours up from Gokyo village (4,700m) and 1 hour down. Start no later than 5:00am for sunrise.

Is Gokyo Ri harder than Kalapathar? They are similar in altitude but Gokyo Ri involves a steeper, scrambly final section. Both require solid acclimatisation.
